Cole's History

History: The Cole Story

Old Photo

Our Dealership was originally founded in 1950 by Stanley V. Cole. The original Dealership was located where the current County Clerk's office currently resides. The original name of the dealership was "Cole Motors".

In the mid 1950’s, the store was relocated to 1330 Monterey St. in San Luis Obispo. It stayed at that location for over 50 years! In the 60’s, Chrysler forced service to be split with Chrysler and Dodge. In choosing Chrysler, we were forced to sell Dodge to Callahan & Sons.

Jeff Cole joined his father at the dealership in 1967. In 1973, Jeff and Carla Cole bought the Dodge store back from Callahan and Sons. Also in 1973, they merged the two stores and signed a buy/sell agreement with Stanley Cole. The dealership tried to move from the downtown location for the next 30 years.

In 2003, the Coles purchased the land that was the former parking lot of Williams Brothers Market. In January of 2005, they opened their brand new state-of-the-art facility.

They then purchased the Mazda franchise from Valley Mazda in July of 2007. They received the Jeep franchise in December of 2009.

In an effort to expand the business, the Coles opened the Cole Value Center in October of 2009. The Dealership is still run today by Jeff and David Cole.
